Estimated Total Training Fund of All Companies in the Philippines

If you’re asking about the opportunity we have in Yaman Advocacy Cooperative, all have to do is look at the number. Since Yaman’s product is “training,” we look at the data related to that. We tried to come up with an estimated total training fund of all companies in the Philippines.

Here’s what we found out.

The 2021/2022 Integrated Survey on Labor and Employment, specifically the module on job-related trainings, revealed that one in three establishments provided such training to their employees. Rank and file employees constituted the majority of those trained, with more than half of the training programs conducted “in-house” by the establishments themselves. The average training cost per employee in 2021 was PhP 3,512. 

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

• Coverage: The survey covered formal establishments employing at least 20 workers. 
• Training Provision: One in three establishments surveyed provided job-related training to their employees. 
• Employee Distribution: Rank and file employees were the primary recipients of job-related training, followed by supervisors and foremen, and then managers and executives. 
• Training Location: More than half (55.6%) of the training programs were conducted “in-house” within the establishments, while others utilized local private or government training institutions. 
• Training Cost: The average training cost per employee in 2021 was PhP 3,512. 
• Industry Variation: The Administrative and Support Services Activities industry had the highest average training cost per employee, while Other Personal Service Activities except Activities of Membership Organizations had the lowest. 

At the minimum, we multiplied P3,512 (cost per employee) to 48M employees. That gives us more than P168B.

And the training will just keep growing as industries grow.
