The Best Example of Advocacy Cooperative in the Philippines

Yakap sa Mamamayan or YAMAN Advocacy Cooperative is the best example of advocacy cooperative in the Philippines today. According to Cooperative Development Authority MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 2011-15, May 06, 2011 or the REVISED GUIDELINE FOR THE REGISTRATION OF PRIMARY COOPERATIVES:

(a) Advocacy Cooperative – is a primary cooperative which promotes and advocates cooperativism among its members and the public through socially-oriented projects, education and training, research and communication, and other similar activities to reach out to its intended beneficiaries.

We fall under this category.

While not so popular compared with other types of cooperative, an advocacy cooperative has an equal if not better opportunity to develop into a highly successful social enterprise in terms of reach and worth.

The reason? Our members are influential figures. For example, we have thought leaders, professional speakers, trainers, key opinion leaders, academicians, businessmen, politicians, civic and church leaders, youth leaders, community organizers, working professionals, among many others.

Their influence may contribute to the unstoppable growth in membership in terms of numbers. When the programs revenue generation schemes are executed well, the revenue or the net surplus can easily be no less than handsome.

Our services, for example, are trainings and workshops. These products don’t go out of style. They are always needed by either our membership or the public.
