She described the challenges of 2025, including the death of her mother and a family member’s battle with stage 4 cancer, which led her to develop tools for resilience and coping. Sterling emphasized the importance of vulnerability and emotional well-being, explaining that burnout is a state of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion caused by chronic stress. She highlighted the impact of burnout, including depression, sleep issues, and frequent illnesses, and expressed her mission to share strategies for preventing burnout and advocating for mental health.
Preventing Burnout with 3M Framework
Sterling shared insights on preventing burnout using a 3M framework, which includes mind shift, mindfulness, and microsteps. The mind shift involves changing one’s perspective on stressful situations by viewing them as growth opportunities and recognizing their purpose. Mindfulness involves recognizing and naming emotions, pausing to investigate them, and nurturing oneself through self-care practices. Microsteps include using the five senses to find joy, practicing gratitude, and reaching out to others for support. Sterling emphasized that burnout is preventable and shared personal experiences to illustrate the effectiveness of the 3M framework.
